Community Connectors – Friendship Cafes and Window Talks for Seniors Project

In response to COVID–19 pandemic situation, AMCS has established ‘Community Connectors – Friendship Cafes and Window Talks for Seniors’ project to provide ongoing support for multicultural seniors to get connected with their community members, increase participation in social activities and reduce social isolation.

AMCS has developed a range of easily accessible online workshops via Zoom. We are inviting CALD seniors and carers to take part in our weekly online social and friendship cafés, where they can meet new friends, learn something new and share knowledge with like-minded people. There will be something for everyone to join and stay connected as described below.

Knitting Café for seniors – Wednesdays, 10:30am – 11:30am

In our weekly Knitting Café we talk about yarn, patterns, share our skills and make wonderful woollen garments, while enjoying a chat and a cup of tea. We are aware, that not everyone can knit, but it is never too late to try something new! Don’t be shy and please join us. (*Basic materials can be provided upon request).

Art and Craft Café for seniors – Thursdays, 10:30am – 11:30am

In this café we celebrate art, craft and let our creativity thrive, while using different creative materials and mediums. Our weekly online café is a place, where, with a cup of coffee or tea you will meet like-minded seniors, learn and share new skills and tell stories through the artwork.

Friendship Café for seniors – Fridays, 10:30am – 11:30am

Our Friendship Café is a safe place, where you can find help and assistance in dealing with social isolation, especially inflicted by the current pandemic. These are the stressful times for everyone and if you are starting to experience new challenges, or feel you have nobody to talk to, please contact Tinatin. You can meet new friends, share your experience, raise concerns or can receive a referral for confidential one-on-one help.

Online or over the phone IT Support Café for seniors – Thursdays, 2pm – 3pm

A friendly digital friend is happy to support CALD seniors to learn how to use digital devices and internet or zoom to stay connected with families, friends, and community members and participate in online social and physical activities.
