An exciting opportunity is available for seniors aged 65 and over across Victoria, to engage in an enjoyable range of FREE physical activity groups designed to improve overall health and well-being.
Thanks to $1.8M in federal funding provided through the Sport Australia Move It AUS – Better Ageing Grant Program, Australian Multicultural Community Services has developed ‘Moving For Life – The Way I Like It’, a program of specifically designed activities for seniors to increase their level of participation in regular physical activities.
The activities include things like gentle exercise programs, dancing, yoga, pilates, tai chi, community gardening, bushwalking and many more.
- Facilitates free access for physical activity programs across Victoria
- Provides Info sessions to highlight the benefits of regular physical activities
- Provides peer education sessions for volunteers and carers for the development of pathways for the engagement of seniors in physical activities, through
- Provides No Falls training programs to enhance the capability and capacity of organisations and the staff responsible for delivering age-appropriate and culturally sensitive activities for seniors through training programs
The program offers excellent opportunities for older Australians to take part in inaccessible activities and provides those who may be socially isolated with opportunities to make new friends.
