AMCS Social Support Groups provide an opportunity for seniors to attend and participate in culturally appropriate social interactions. Our groups are designed to maintain and support social interactions and independent living.
What is a Social Support Group?
AMCS supports older people living at home to make and maintain friendships, stay active and take part in activities of interest to them.
Regular sessions are held in accessible, comfortable and safe venues.
Activities are organised according to the interests and abilities of the people taking part and are designed to create opportunities to socialise and strengthen skills needed for daily living to maintain their confidence and independence.
The kind of activities offered include: table games, quizzes, craft, information sessions, guest speakers, day outings, cafe lunches, birthdays and celebrations (festivals and religious days), intergenerational programs, cooking, music (singing & dancing) and gentle exercise.
Transport and food are provided.
Where and when are Social Support Groups held?
AMCS run a variety of Social Support Groups for various communities from CALD background. Some example groups are: Filipino, Polish and Eastern European, Chinese and a Multicultural group. As demand grows for a particular culture, we create new groups to meet the current needs. There are several maps below detailing where some of the current groups are being held. Please get in touch with us if you would like further information or are interested in participating in our current or future groups.
Do I need a referral for this service?
You can refer yourself for this program by contacting our office in Maidstone for advice or referrals can be made by My Aged Care (MAC) to our organisation.
A small fee is charged for attendance which includes transport, meals and all activities. Social Support Groups receive funding from the Australian Government’s Commonwealth & Home Support Program (CHSP).
